A brand refresh for Mark Kelly Consultancy

I can’t talk about a lot of the stuff I do. Working for Agencies usually involves either an NDA and in any case, professional discretion from me. And one of my main direct engagements at present is for a social tech startup with some serious clout behind them, really interesting stuff .. but again, NDA-ville.

So to keep the news element of the blog fresh..
look, I rebranded!

Hopefully my brand ethos has always come across on the website (I’ll be doing some sense checking on that soon , in true usability stylee).
But I felt that the visual aspects needed professional input.
And that didn’t mean jumping on Fiverr.com.

The previous DIY-d logo and my giddy approach to colourways and fonts needed addressing. So I commissioned designer compadre John Polley to devise a ‘proper’ logo and wider brand guidelines. I really like what he’s produced.

John also took some photos and has designed the various social media headers. I went with outdoors-based photos for some interest, rather than the usual digital marketing look. You know: arms-crossed, wearing a black shirt, stood on an iron stairwell against distressed bricks type shots.I josh. I actually like that kind shot too. They’re a clear visual clue for prospects that you’re in the creative industries.

Actually, I’m wearing a black shirt and stood on rather than against distressed stone in the headers shots below, hmm.

I wanted to stay with the orange* I’ve used since I launched because.. well, I like it.
But it also (post-rationalising.. like many a brand development project) conveys enthusiasm, gregariousness, helpfulness and value**,  so makes sense to stick with it.

And I dropped ‘digital’ from the Consultancy name … because it’s all digital now. But kept it for the strapline.. because it’s still a differentiator / shorthand / signpost for ‘that’ type of marketing support.

* the orange = PANTONE Orange 021, Hex FF500B

** Value doesn’t mean cheap by the way (25 years of experience aint cheap kids) but means adding extra to anything I work on.

(in case you were wondering.. Brodie. She’s my lovely hound. Doesn’t know one end of project plan or content strategy from another but is a great side kick when I’m in blue-sky mode.)
